This might sound strange, but actually, the Keto diet and the hCG diet are pretty different. Not only is the keto diet high fat, which hCG is the complete opposite of, but hCG does have a fair amount of carbs in the form of the fruits, the veggies, and the melba/grissini if you eat it. With keto obviously, you keep the carbs very very low. Usually, on keto, a person is instructed to keep their carbs to a TOTAL of 20g or less per day – that’s total, not net (meaning no leeway is given for fiber carbs). On a typical day in Phase 2 of hCG however, you might easily consume about 60 grams of total carbs, which is about half your 500 calories worth (260 calories). That’s just an example day on the regular hCG protocol – once you count the 2 fruits for the day – 1 apple, a handful of strawberries, and the 2 veggies- say roasted tomatoes, and some cabbage, you’re basically at that number of carbs. This isn’t bad- the protocol works great! It’s just definitely a different thing than Keto.
If you are interested in doing a keto type diet with hCG, there is a Facebook group that does this called hCG 3.0 that you can seek out for more information and helps with that. I have heard mixed reviews on the protocol- for some it seems to work pretty well, but for others the weight loss is very very slow and they felt they did not get the same results as with the regular protocols in line with the original principles of the hCG protocol (almost no fat, using the veggies, etc). I was temporarily tracking a few of the ladies doing this protocol with body fat testing and the prelim results did show they were losing slower than average for most women on the normal hCG diet so at this point I’m not convinced it’s as good or better.
