Original email for context: I am now 20 lbs over a healthy weight and have tried HCG multiple times since my initial success and either can’t maintain, cheat (give in to vodka), or give up. I know my head hasn’t been in it these last two years and I’ve been making every excuse to try it again, then every excuse to fail. I’ve done the real subcutaneous shots (SQ) multiple times and my latest has been homeopathic pellets. How do I make HCG work again?
I have been in your boat before in the sense of a time in my life when I just wasn’t ready/able to make the change that hCG required – and as a result I too cheated frequently, quit the round early, and then gained back 15 lbs in 9 weeks after that eating all sorts of crazy, back to my previous binge-eating ways.
What I have to say is this- there does have to be a mental/emotional readiness there. Unfortunately I can’t know exactly what or when that will be for you or what input will help get you to that place.
For me, I actually had to stop trying for awhile and just kind of let myself go, so that I had time for my mind to feel free – then after a time (about 9 weeks) one day I felt like something clicked in my brain and I felt different- I felt ready for a true change again. And that next round of hCG I was able to with the self-control I had desired to exhibit the previous round but wasn’t able to.
I read lots of self help books and one interesting thing I keep seeming to run across is that people respond differently to expectations. Me personally, I don’t do well with expectations. For me, I do best when there are no expectations, and then I feel like it’s much more easy for me to do the right thing. I highly recommend reading the book as it helps you learn to adapt your environment and how you do things to your personality
and her follow-up book once you identify your personality or “tendency”, on how to then create your life so you can create true life change and habits with your personality:
I do definitely think that learning more how you best operate as a person on the inside can go a long way in helping you succeed at whatever it is you aim to do. My life has changed a LOT since I started living in a way that went with the way I seem to be genetically designed.
HEALTH ISSUES?
The other thing I wanted to mention too is that undiscovered health issues can cause an inability to make life changes like this. I’m not sure if you may have some, but thyroid, adrenal, or other hormone imbalances can GREAT affect your energy, stamina, and motivation – and this in turn can impact your ability to stick to such a difficult diet.
That is indeed what was going on for me on my 2nd round when I did all the things I described earlier. I was experiencing some really bad adrenal fatigue without fully being aware of it, and feeling so exhausted and fatigued and depressed, the diet just felt impossible and I just simply didn’t care enough- couldn’t – care enough – in that state.
Once I had a chance to recover my health a little and get on some supplements to help my adrenals, I was able to be refreshed enough to move forward again.
I have a post that may help you if you think this could be part of the root problem:
How to Discover Hormone Imbalances
If you find you have one, there ARE solutions.
I take both thyroid and adrenal medication to this day. I will probably never be without it. I would be pretty non-functional without it. It’s a life changer getting to the bottom of something like this.
I hope this helps you a little as you continue to figure out your own journey.
