Original email for context: So many places say you can’t exercise and do the hcg I have read that you can but you have to up your calories from 500 to 750 but also that you can’t burn more than 500 calories in a workout. That’s not possible while training for a triathlon. I’m kind of stuck I have a few races I am training for but my weight is holding me back. I have been doing marathons and triathlons for 15 years always been able to keep a healthy weight but the last two years after I hit 40 I can’t seem to lose any weight and I keep gaining weight when eating healthy and exercise. I thought I may want to try the HCG diet but I am an avid exerciser and love physical activity daily so not just my training workouts but active lifestyle. Just wondering if you think I would be able to do HCG still being active and have the success I have about 20 pounds to lose.
I am going to be perfectly frank with you here. You can’t. And while there’s a small chance you will make it work during P2, you will likely tax your body so greatly in the process that you will suffer some ill after effects later after your round is over- adrenal fatigue and the resulting weight gain and exhaustion is what I see time after time when people think they can combine two extreme activities like this at the same time. And like I said, initially they may actually do really great (although for others the ill effects will show up right away and they will either completely stop losing weight even though they are only eating 500 calories, and/or feel horrible fatigue like they got hit by a train).
I strongly urge you to consider either forgetting hCG for now and continue training for your upcoming races and then taking a break to do hCG, or taking a break now from training to do hCG. I only see things get screwed up trying to do both. It’s not often that I get really opinionated here about what I really think a person should do – and ultimately I really do respect this is your decision- but I just have to say, please please consider not doing these both at same time, I think it’s a very unwise idea.
If you choose to proceed anyway, and you feel like crap 5 days into the diet, remember you can come to your senses then as well and quit hCG for the time being and come back to this advice. :)-My full post on hCG and exercise is here.
